Realization Page

Were you able to achieve the goals you set for grammar and reading? Why or why
not?

Yes, I think I was able to achieve the goals I set for grammar and reading. Knowledge can be learned in a step-by-step procedure. I am not expecting to learn everything in an instant since it is just my first semester here in La Salle. Taking-up units in grammar and reading, I can say that learning language is fun. That is with the help of my professor and fellow classmates. Without the support, help and inspiration that my professor and classmates is giving me, I may not be able to achieve the goals I set for grammar and reading.

What accomplishments in this class are you most proud of? Why?

In every subject there are new things I learn, new subject I encounter, new theories, ideas, formulas and a lot more. Aside from the knowledge I learned, there is something I want to consider an accomplishment. The fact that I was able to gain and share knowledge with my professor and block mates is worth the lessons and quizzes we have in our class. Another is the accomplishment I had when I was given the chance to make my first portfolio. It was actually my first time to make a portfolio because we weren’t really required to make a portfolio during my High school days. The experience and the memories are worth it.

What areas still need improvement? What will you do?

This question made me think for days. What areas still needs improvement? Academically, I can’t think of any field of education where I can say I still need to improve. Maybe because our professor has this charm that every time he will speak in front of the class everybody would listen to him. We always pay attention to his class and every time there is a lesson he always makes sure that we understand it and learn something from him every meeting we had.

What did you learn about grammar, mechanics, word choice, and reading while you were completing this portfolio?

I learned that there are a lot of errors around us. The only problem is that most of us are not knowledgeable of them being present. We don’t usually care about those errors and the fact that we even don’t care on reading them. There are hundreds or even thousands of errors around us which we don’t give any attention to. One thing I observe, people with a low educational background tend to use the same words, mechanics, and word choice but usually commit the same mistakes again and again.

What difficulties did you encounter as you were completing this portfolio? How
did you deal with these difficulties?

One difficulty I encounter is getting familiar with the site where I post this portfolio. I am not familiar with the site and I am not used to post blogs on the internet. Honestly, I’m not fan of blogs.  It’s not that it’s boring but there is no attraction in making a blog. Another difficulty is the overlapping schedule of the members of the group. Considering the busy schedules we have and different requirements we had in different subjects, we really try to find time to make our group complete so when we take the video everyone is present.

All in all, what can you say about the process of keeping a language portfolio?

Keeping a language portfolio requires a lot of dedication and time; I can say it isn’t that easy. Writing a weekly log is not that hard, the only thing you need to do is write a reaction or summarize an article that you get interested in reading. The only problem is when you forgot to submit the reading log on time; Sir will surely deduct a point on your work. Finding an anecdote is really hard. There are many errors around us but we are not aware of them. If you don’t know the principles or rules in language, you will surely have a hard time finding one. The last one is the process of posting the blog. If you are not familiar with the blog site, you will have a big problem which I encountered while posting this blog.
